ZARA CHOSE THE NAME OF PETER THE GREAT FOR THE AIRPORT IN SAINT PETERSBURG

The Russian singer Zara chose the name of Peter the Great for the airport in Saint Petersburg within the national contest “The great Russian names”. She told about it to “Lenta.ru”.

“I totally support such initiatives and I think that our country is unbelievably rich with the names of great political figures, scientists, writers, painters, the artists of theatre and movie, having left the inefaceable trace in the world history”, Zara shared.

She also added, that she chose the name of Peter the Great as a name for the airport in her native city Saint Petersburg. “Peter’s achievements are glorified in poems, the favorite literal characters lived there, the important state reforms took place here exactly, on the Neva river. The destiny of the Nothern capital is tightly connected with the First Russian Emperor”, Zara pointed out.

“Such projects are really important not only for us, but also for the visitors, arriving in Russia. This way foreign friends can learn the names, history and culture of our great state”, Zara concluded.

October, 11th the Public chamber of Russia started a common national contest “The great names of Russia”. According to its conception, the names of big Russian airports will be fullfilled with the names of outstanding compatriots.
